Readers of Condé Nast Traveller named their 20 favourite spots for ski and après-ski in the recent 35th annual Readers’ Choice Awards survey. Courchevel and Méribel, two resorts in the Les Trois Vallées region of the French Alps, both made the list amongst other top ski resorts in France, Italy, Switzerland, and Austria.
Les Trois Vallées in France is the largest ski area in the world, comprising seven unique resorts at varying altitudes. Well suited to families and skiers of all levels, Courchevel and Méribel are two of the most popular holiday destinations in the Les Trois Vallées region.
Courchevel
Enclosed in enchanting forestry, the six villages of Courchevel abound with history and the resort’s north-facing slopes offer some of the best skiing conditions in the Alps.
Courchevel has more Michelin stars than any other ski resort, with fourteen stars spread across eight restaurants. This naturally attracts an affluent crowd, keen to splash the cash on luxury stays and unmatched experiences.
Condé Nast Traveller says:
“Be warned, it’s hard to go elsewhere one you’ve gotten a taste for Courchevel’s heated pavements and impressive, Michelin-starred dining scene.”
Méribel
Méribel’s name is thought to have come from the Latin ‘Mirare’, meaning “beautiful to look at”. Nestled in the Tarentaise Valley, with its snow-topped chalets built in the traditional Savoyarde style, it is easy to see why Méribel is considered one of the prettiest ski resorts in Europe.
The resort landed a place in Conde Nast’s rankings for its “unbeatable location” at the centre of the Three Valleys, as well as its vibrant après scene. If you’re an intermediate skier in search of a stylish stay, Méribel is the place to go. It also holds Famille Plus quality award, which attracts a large number of families.
Why invest in Les Trois Vallées?
Les Trois Vallées resorts have long attracted visitors in huge numbers through winter and summer. Rental rates are some of the highest in the French and Swiss Alps, simply because luxury stays here are so sought after.
Courchevel and Méribel will be in the spotlight next year as they welcome the Alpine World Ski Championships 2023—and no doubt an even greater number of ski enthusiasts.
With growing demand, high occupancy levels and rising property prices, investors would do well to acquire their own luxury chalet in the Les Trois Vallées region.
