The Costa del Sol in Andalusia, Spain, has long been one of Europe’s top holiday destinations, and with people flooding back into the foreign holidays market, 2023 is likely to be a busy year.

If you are looking to invest in property, these beautiful seaside towns could offer some outstanding opportunities.

The capital of the Costa del Sol offers a laid-back Andalucian lifestyle, with great food, plenty of sun, and centuries of history. It’s the perfect base from which to explore the countryside or head to the beach, making it easily one of the best towns in the Costa del Sol.

While many people associate the city and the entire area with beach holidays, Malaga has 3,000 years’ worth of history just waiting to be discovered. Everyone from the Romans to the Moors and Phoenicians have left their mark on this balmy Mediterranean landscape.

Wander around the historic sites that these civilisations left behind them at your leisure, including the Roman theatre and the Alcazaba. Many historic monuments are open free of charge, as are around 20 world-class museums.

And if you get thirsty, you can continue the history theme in Antigua Casa, the city’s oldest wine bar.

Located close to Malaga, Mijas is situated on the southeastern coast of Spain. It’s worth distinguishing between the Mijas Costas—a small, vibrant town set on the coast, and Mijas Pueblo, a white-washed village perched on a mountainside 420 metres above sea level.

Mijas Pueblo village offers some attractive boutique-style shops centred around the wide-open plaza Virgen de la Pena. Those with a sweet tooth might feel like visiting the Mayan Monkey which bills itself as being the smallest chocolate factory in the world. History lovers might like to take time to visit the hermitage which sits at the end of a lovely courtyard and has some lovely coastal views.

Mijas Costa has gained a reputation as a hotspot for British expats. It is a thriving town with easy access to gorgeous stretches of beach. With everything you might expect from a top holiday destination, including great restaurants offering a wide selection of Spanish tapas, Mijas Costa is undoubtedly one of the best towns in the Costa del Sol. Golf lovers will be spoilt for choice here with several world-class courses within easy reach. The beautiful weather and wide, verdant landscape make these courses a great option even for beginners.

With the Sierra Blanca mountains as a backdrop, and the wide open sea to the front, Marbella couldn’t have a more spectacular location. Most people will instantly think of the glitz and glamour of the Golden mile and the luxury yachts which fill the harbour. However, there is another side to be discovered in the beautiful old town with its tight, twisty streets and Arabian medieval buildings. Its surrounding mountains also offer a great place to explore for those who like the great outdoors.

Around 50 km away from Marbella, you’ll find the attractive coastal town of Nerja. Once this was a sleepy fishing village, but today it has flourished into a thriving tourist town. The famous Burriana Beach offers a great place to relax and top up your tan. A temperate climate means Nerja is worth a visit at any time of the year, with temperatures normally hovering around 20°C as late as November.

Rincón de la Victoria

While Rincón de la Victoria lies outside of the hustle and bustle, it enjoys a prime location just 20 minutes from the centre of Malaga and less than an hour from Marbella. The area boasts 9km of excellent sandy beaches along with fascinating historical monuments, popular with tourists and residents alike. Cueva del Higueron cave—the only underwater cave in Europe—is also a must-visit for anyone spending time in Rincón de la Victoria.
