Naturally English is the most common language of instruction, again followed by Portuguese. In addition to other languages, there are also a handful of bilingual schools in the area.

International schools in Lisbon are cheaper than in many other European cities. The average price in Lisbon for a 12-year-old for one year is just over €12,000, with a minimum of around €5,000, and maximum of up to €19,000.

We’ve put together a list of the most renowned and top-rated schools in Lisbon – so that you don’t have to.

The British School of Lisbon (Ages 3-12)

Set up by British non-profit organisation, The School’s Trust, in 2019; this school for younger years is one of the newest you’ll come across.

Its beautiful, historic building from the late 18th century is located in the prime location of downtown Lisbon, and its teaching is considered world class.

In May, the school revealed a €30 million project to build a second campus. Due to open within the next three years, the new campus will house state-of-the-art facilities including science labs, theatre rooms and a semi-Olympic indoor pool.

Redbridge School (Ages 3-15)

Redbridge is a new international school located in central Lisbon in the popular neighbourhood of Campo de Ourique.

Recently designed by architecture firm ARX Portugal, the building faces the city to the north, while the south looks out onto an extensive garden space.

Offering International, Portuguese, and French curriculums, Redbridge stands out from the crowd. Its multi-lingual approach combines English, Portuguese, and French, enabling students to embark on their own personalised pathways.

International Sharing School, Taguspark (Ages 1-18)

Located in the country’s first ground-breaking science and technology park in Porto Salvo, International Sharing School follows an International curriculum with a focus on today’s increasingly global world.

Educating students aged 1-18 years, the school offers a variety of challenging programmes from early and primary years right through to diploma. Over 600 students are enrolled onto its programmes, belonging to an amazing 55 nationalities.

St. Dominic’s International School (Ages 3-18)

St. Dominic’s International School is renowned in Portugal. Situated just outside of central Lisbon in the district of Cascais, it is slightly further afield, but still easily accessible via a bus service provided by the school.

People are drawn to the institution because it is highly respected, and since 1997 has been registered to offer all three programmes of the International Baccalaureate—Diploma, Middle Years and Primary Years. While its language of instruction is English, it provides tailored programmes for students who are new to the language.
