In addition to various insights relating to booking trends, the global online travel agency has revealed which destinations are receiving the most interest from travellers.

Let’s take a look at the top trending destinations for travellers in 2023.

São Paulo, Brazil

First up is São Paulo, one of the world’s most populous cities. As Brazil’s financial centre, São Paulo is one of the wealthiest parts of the country, and a prime destination for tourists looking for a luxurious stay. The cosmopolitan city is full of skyscrapers, incredible restaurants, and a vibrant arts and cultural scene. With this, travellers from across the globe are flocking to the bustling São Paulo for a busy and memorable stay.

Budva, Montenegro

Montenegro is becoming one of the world’s up-and-coming travel locations, and this year, there has been a lot of interest in the charming town of Budva.

Nestled on the stunning Adriatic coast, this Montenegrin gem is known for its sandy beaches, historic landmarks, and lively nightlife.

Better still, it is only half an hour’s drive from the Bay of Kotor, a beautiful natural bay in southwestern Montenegro. This area is rich in maritime history and boasts a luxurious hospitality scene, making it a destination favoured by the global rich.

Querétaro, Mexico

Querétaro is another of this year’s trending destinations. It is located in central Mexico, around 240km from Mexico City. The city itself is renowned for its Spanish colonial architecture, and its historic centre has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Querétaro may not be the place for a beach holiday, but instead is appealing to a growing number of travellers looking for a natural escape. It is surrounded by various landscapes, from dense rainforests to vast deserts and mesmerising mountains, making it ideal for those who want to switch off and lose themselves in nearby nature.

Travellers are keen to disconnect, with 55% wanting to spend their vacations off-grid.

Pondicherry, India

With its tree-lined streets and traditional colonial buildings, this former colonial settlement is often referred to as the ‘French Capital of India’. The town is growing in popularity thanks to its unique culture, delicious cuisine, and various yoga and meditation experiences. The renowned Sri Aurobindo Ashram, in particular, attracts visitors from around the world in pursuit of spiritual knowledge.

According to Booking.com’s survey, almost half (44%) of travellers want to experience a “spiritual stay” this year. In fact, it is the second most popular type of niche experience behind “eccentric eating”. Additionally, 42% are interested in taking a “health hiatus”, whilst 40% are looking to go on a “silent retreat”.

Bolzano, Italy

For those in search of a more active trip, Bolzano in Italy is awash with nearby skiing and apres-ski opportunities. It is the capital of South Tyrol, the northernmost part of Italy, and acts as a gateway to the Dolomites mountain range in the Italian Alps.

With its unique mix of cultures, you’ll hear various different languages being spoken in Bolzano. Expect beautiful stone castles, fantastic food, age-old landmarks, and in the winter, the oldest Christmas market in Italy.

Visitors are also flocking to these locations, as well as other travel hotspots in Malaysia, Greece, New Mexico, the Czech Republic and Australia. You can explore the full list of top trending destinations in Booking.com’s Travel Predictions 2023.
