2022 has been the year the global tourism sector has been anticipating. The year 2020 saw markets decimated by COVID-19, and 2021 was not much better. Now, though, vaccination rates signify restrictions on travel are opening up, meaning many people are preparing for their first holiday abroad in more than two years.

One of the main destinations of choice will be the Côte d’Azur in France. This elegant stretch of coastline goes from the border with Italy to Saint Tropez. Also known as the French Riviera, it takes its name from the deep azure blue of the Mediterranean sea.

It is a glamourous coastline dotted with private villas and luxury yachts in harbours. Five-star restaurants, luxury hotels and gorgeous beaches reinforce a view of seaside wealth and refinement.

Saint Tropez

When you think of the French Riviera, Saint Tropez is probably one of the first places coming to your mind. However, it was once a humble fishing village. Its reputation was transformed in the 1950s when Bridget Bardot was filmed in this town. Today, the narrow cobbled streets are filled with upscale restaurants. Although some fishing boats can still be seen in the old harbour, you are more likely to notice luxury yachts offshore. With a beautiful sandy shoreline to relax on, it is a great place to enjoy everything the French Riviera offers.

Monaco

Monaco enjoys special status as a principality and even has its own royal family. It is best known for its Grand Prix taking place along its iconic street circuit. Those streets are open most of the year, and any motorsport fan will take the opportunity to take a drive around the course. Visitors might also take the opportunity to enjoy the Palais des Princes de Monaco to discover a wealth of treasures, including the monumental Cararra marble staircase.

The Medieval Village of Eze

For a slight change of pace, head to the hilltops looking down on Saint Tropez. Here you will find the “village perché” Eze, a beautiful village dating back to the 12 century with sweeping views of the Mediterranean. Narrow cobblestone streets contain a wealth of discoveries as boutiques, small art galleries and a beautiful 12th-century church. Right at the top, you will also find the spectacular exotic Gardens. From here, you will get an unbeatable view stretching from Italy to Saint Tropez.

Menton

Situated close to the Italian border, Menton offers a spectacular location with a distinctly Italian flavour. The town’s beach, la Plage des Sablettes, is a perfect place to take a dip whilst it also offers cultural attractions such as the Musée des Beaux-Arts and the Musée Jean Cocteau, providing a great collection of artworks. Meanwhile, spectacular gardens include Jardin Biovès, filled with exotic plants, fountains and exotic trees.

With the Cannes Film Festival also rolling into town every year, the Côte d’Azur lives up to its reputation as a glamorous and sensational scenery. Prices can be high, but if you want to experience a spectacular holiday which can guarantee good weather and unforgettable memories, the Côte d’Azur is for you.
