Everything is looking rather exciting for train-travel at the moment. Notably, Spanish operator Renfe are looking to feature a new train route that goes all the way from the London to Lisbon. Theoretically, this line could pass through Paris, Lyon, Barcelona, Madrid, Vigo and Porto, too.

This comes at a time when there are also some other exciting plans being discussed. It looks like there is scope to travel between Venice, Croatia, and Budapest via the tracks, and from London to Berlin via a sleeper train.

Renfe has already announced big expansion plans to get new Barcelona-Lyon and Madrid-Marseille lines running by the end of the year. In the longer term, they also have plans for a Barcelona-Paris Line. Renfe might not stop there as there is also discussion of using Paddington station and the Channel Tunnel to create direct links from the UK and Spain.

It is yet to be seen if these ambitious plans will come to fruition, and how long this would take, but one day, (who knows), we could be travelling outbound from a bustling London station while gazing out over the golden coastlines of Portugal.

Even if these plans are years away, one thing is certain, it is a very exciting time for the rail industry in Europe.

The convenience of high-speed train travel

The new high-speed train route could make traveling from London to Lisbon much easier and more convenient than ever. Currently, travellers who want to get from one city to the other have to either fly or take the traditional overnight rail service, which can be time-consuming and expensive. With the new high-speed route, though, you could reach your destination in as little as 4 hours—saving both time and money.

The route could include some truly breathtaking sights. From rolling hills dotted with castles in France’s Loire Valley region all the way through Spain’s stunning mountain passes and down into Portugal’s lush countryside, there will be no shortage of beautiful scenery on route.

If these plans do materialise, the new high-speed train route from London all the way through Portugal is set to revolutionise travel between these two capital cities—and beyond!

With speed, convenience, comfort and the incredible sights that could be along its path, this really could be a new era for rail travel.
