From the Empire State Building to the Eiffel Tower, each generation is getting more adventurous when it comes to pushing the boundaries of architecture and engineering. 2023 will be no exception as the next generation of skyscrapers is set to be completed. From the Middle East to the United States, these structures will offer innovative designs and extraordinary cityscape views. Here are five of the new tallest buildings in the world set to be completed this year.

Central Park Tower, United States

It’s fairly unsurprising that, in a city where residential space is sparse, planners have chosen to create the highest homes on the planet. Located in New York City, the Central Park Tower will be the tallest residential building in the world upon completion. Standing at 472 meters tall, it will offer wide-reaching views of Central Park and the Manhattan skyline. As well as a hotel and retail space, the tower will contain 179 luxury condominiums for those with big budgets and a desire to live sky-high.

Merdeka 118, Malaysia

The Merdeka PNB118 is located in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia and one of Asia’s fastest-growing cities. At 644 meters high, it is set to be the tallest building in Malaysia and one of the new tallest buildings in the world.

Containing residential units, retail space and offices, Merdeka PNB118’s unique design features a series of overlapping blocks with a diamond-shaped façade, alongside an unusual spire design that creates a profile of the city skyline.

Ciel Tower, UAE

Dubai will break its own record for the world’s tallest hotel with the completion of the Ciel Tower, which stands 365 meters tall. It will surpass the current tallest hotel, the 356-meter Gevora, which is also located in Dubai.

With over 8 million international overnight visitors in 2022 and a consistent ranking among the top five most visited cities globally, Dubai will undoubtedly require these additional hotel rooms. Currently, the emirate already boasts 769 hotels and 117,434 rooms.

Wuhan Greenland Center, China

With a somewhat delayed history, the Wuhan Greenland Centre is finally set to complete in 2023. Originally set to be the tallest building in China, construction was delayed as works reached the 96th floor of the building and the Chinese government requested a dramatic redesign to ensure that the building would not encroach on airspace restrictions.

However, when the building is ready, it will be the tallest skyscraper to be completed in 2023.

Iconic Tower, Egypt

Africa’s first supersized skyscraper, the Iconic Tower will sit at the heart of a new administrative capital in the desert of Egypt. The tower will become Africa’s tallest building by a large margin, overtaking the Leonardo in South Africa by almost 160 meters.

These great new additions to the tallest buildings in the world showcase some of the most impressive and innovative designs that modern architecture has to offer. They will attract tourists from all over the world, not only with their breathtaking views but also with stand-out amenities. These structures offer a glimpse into the future of innovative building design, and we look forward to them opening this year.
